Robotic thymectomy is set to become the standard technique for thymectomy in patient affected by early stage thymic tumours ( thymoma and thymic carcinoma) and myasthenia gravis.
Conditions we treat :
Myasthenia Gravis
Thymoma and thymic carcinoma
Thymic lipoma , Thymic cyst
Ectopic parathyroid gland
Metastasis resection from other organs
The procedure involves 3 - barely visible - small incisions of 8mm each (located on the right anterior and lateral chest wall in most cases) and the patient is usually discharged home within 48 hours. A small drain is inserted in the end of the procedure and removed within 24 hours. The recovery is usually very quick and the discomfort a the area of the incisions minimum. This procedure has replaced the traditional median sternotomy (breastbone split) of the past that was associated with significant morbidity and mortality risk.
Below you can see the positioning of the robot and the thymus gland removed complete and intact.
