Robotic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis / long QT syndrome
Robotic sympathectomy represents the latest minimally invasive technique for the definitive management of hyperhidrosis. As a surgical procedure is the last resort for patients suffering from sweating symptoms where conservative non surgical treatments are not beneficial. With 2 or 3 tiny incisions of 8mm each we visualise the sympathetic chain and we disrupt it to the appropriate level. The symptoms of excessive sweating are immediately improved. Patient with palmar and armpit sweating are mostly benefited by the procedure. Usually the patient remains in hospital for about 24 hours.
There is a role for left sided sympathectomy for long QT syndrome that is refractory to medication and conservative treatments.
With the Da Vinci Robot we can visualise in magnification the sympathetic chain and identify all collateral branches. It offers precision and with delicate moves it ensures the minimum postoperative discomfort. The scars from the procedure are barely visible offering an excellent cosmetic outcome.
Below you can see the positioning of the robot and with magnification the sympathetic chain and ribs are identified.
